Free Turkeys! well, pictures of turkeys

As promised, here is another freebie for November/Harvest/Thanksgiving. I found this great-looking big-ole turkey on a vintage style label from my Lunagirl Can & Crate Labels collection, which is now available by download as well as on CD! I love the antique printing on these old labels, but I'm including a version with most of the writing removed as well. Enjoy ~ Create something and enter my November challenge!

The smell of Autumn leaves and chimney smoke in the cold crisp air, trees turning the colors of Fruit Loops, thoughts turning to reflection and celebration and (most of all for this challenge) GRATITUDE.

    Autumn Fairy & August Musings

I may be the only one, but I love August. This morning the air is just slightly cool and the sky is a brilliant pure blue. The sunlight has that slanted 'Light in August' sort of melancholy feel, like you can feel something is ending, and the grass on the way to my mailbox is sparkling with dew and spiderwebs. There are still summer locusts whirring (a Southern sound!) but the squawking September blue-jays have already arrived. I guess I just love the shift of seasons, the in-between times. In August the Wheel of the Year turns toward Autumn. It's not here yet, but you can feel sadness of the end of summer, along with the promise of that cool Fall air.

So, it's got me feeling reflective. Autumn always does that!

Here is an Autumn fairy ~ notice the grapes, which are harvested in September and October, I think? She is a hint of my next challenge theme, which starts a week from today!

Autumn is Here! Create Something for Our Challenge!

It's official -- the Autumnal Equinox occurred on Monday here in the Northern Hemisphere, so it is FALL!  Time for cool misty mornings and colder nights, rainy grey afternoons and bright brisk sunny days too... brightly painted leaves on the trees and crunchy brown leaves beneath your feet... the smell of chimneys outside and pumpkin pies inside... Alright, I'll admit it's still 80 degrees here in Tennessee, but it WAS kind of cool this morning! I DID turn the heat on for the first time this season. :-)

Please help us celebrate Autumn by linking up your Autumnal creation in our challenge! Any medium is fine -- cards, scrapbook pages, mixed media, digital art, jewelry, altered objects, fabric arts -- we want to see your work!

Mandy Chilvers of the Lunagirl Moonbeams Design Team created this elegant tag to herald the season and inspire us... This Autumn Girl looks like the Goddess of Fall.

    New Creative Challenge Theme: AUTUMN

In honor of the official beginning of Autumn next Monday -- and the lovely Fall-like weather we're having here in Tennessee this week! -- my new challenge theme is AUTUMN.

What does autumn mean to you?  To me, Autumn means falling leaves, of course, and autumn colors of gold and red and orange and brown.  It means nights that get longer and cooler.  Bright sunny days with a little nip in the air.  Cool rainy days spent with a blanket and a good book.  Pumpkin pie, red apples, Halloween and Thanksgiving.  School clothes and Number 2 pencils.  Here in Tennessee, early Fall means the acorns are ripe and the squawky bluejays arrive to eat them!

If you see the definitions of "autumnal" in my picture above, it can also refer to a metaphorical autumn, the autumn of one's life, an autumnal style in art, a feeling of something a little past ripe but still lush, a turning from fullness of summer toward the stillness of winter, a golden in-between time.  A turning inward.  Fall always energizes me, with cooler air and bright turning leaves and a new school year, but it also tends to make me reflective.

FIND AUTUMN IMAGERY to inspire you!
    GUIDELINES:

  • Any craft or medium is OK.
  • Limit of 3 entries from one person in each challenge, please.
  • Vintage style is encouraged.
  • Use a Lunagirl image or element and your entry will count twice in the drawing!
  • Remember to link to this blog and to Lunagirl.com on your site if you have one.
  • Prize:  Winner will be selected randomly to receive a $10 credit at Lunagirl.com!
  • Challenge ends at noon CST on September 28.

  • Of course I love if you use at least one Lunagirl product, and I hope you'll go take a look at my collection... but that's not a requirement!  But do remember that if you use a Lunagirl image, you will be entered TWICE in the drawing! I want to welcome everyone and every style but also give a little something extra to my wonderful customers! Most important is have fun, get creative, enjoy vintage.

I can't wait to see your creative reflections on AUTUMN!  The Design Team has created some very lovely pieces to get your creative juices flowing (see them below).

    Monday Morning Witchery

My WITCHERY blog challenge is humming right along, with so many great entries in the Witchery gallery!  Check out all the wonderfully witchey work, and link up your creation ~ you have until Sunday to share your witchery for a chance to win two Lunagirl digital collage sheets of your choice.

It's a grey rainy morning here, but I have new Witchery artwork from the Lunagirl Moonbeams Design Team to brighten the day!

Mandy Chilvers shared these three witches!

     From Vicki Romaine:

"Here is another witchery card.  I used some stripped designer paper as my mat and added a small block of checkered designer paper  under the cute Lunagirl image.  Below I placed a strip of a fence that was given to me in a birthday grab bag from a friend.  In the corner is a pumpkin made from some ovals, distressed, and glue together.  I think this made a cute witchery card."

Reverie: Art for an Autumn Day

Today it certainly feels like Autumn -- the air is cool, and a light rain falls from a grey sky.  Trees are turning orange and red and gold.  The rain is welcome for my fading garden, and it's a perfect day for curling up with a book or just getting lost in reverie.  I'll steal a few moments with a cup of tea, then it's back online to work!  Here is a suitable freebie image I'd like to share, entitled "Reverie." Autumn Inspiration from the DT

I'm happy to share some more autumn inspiration from the Lunagirl Moonbeams Design Team...aren't these both lovely?  And they look nice together, even.

<<< Vicki Romaine created the Owl card at left:
"I took a striped piece of cardstock and embossed it and then highlighted the embossing with two shades of distressed inks.  I cut the Lunagirl image out and by placing it on the embossed mat, it gives the appearance of being inside the trees.  The sentiment is made from letter tags."

I really like the way she did the background, and the colors are perfect.

Michele Storms sent this pretty card >>> with vintage style flowers and botanicals perfect for autumn.  Beautiful!

Don't forget you still have until noon Central Time on Sunday to link up your Autumn creations for the blog challenge!

I'll be drawing two winners by random number generator to receive a prize of two Lunagirl digital collage sheets of your choice.  (A great chance to get some Lunagirl images for the Lady Blue challenge coming up -- hint, hint -- or Halloween or anything else you like!)

and this charming little barn owl, also from an antique nature print.

    Autumn Inspiration by Michele

I'm pleased to have such a great response to the "Autumn"-themed challenge.  Twenty entries so far, and still a week to go!

You can link up your entry all the way until midday Sunday (US Central Time), so there is still plenty of time to join in.  It's fun, and you'll have a chance to win two free Lunagirl digital collage sheets of your choosing.  I've decided to choose TWO winners this week, so your chances just doubled!

To inspire you, here is another lovely creation from the Lunagirl Moonbeams Design Team.  A beautiful goddess/girl with flowers in her hair and leaves swirling around her, pretty papers, golden flowers, an orange poppy, a sweet sentiment, and more, come together in this beautiful perfectly autumnal tag by Michele Storms.

The autumn goddess image is from my Lunagirl Mucha 1 collage sheet, and the stamps are from Rogue Redhead Designs.

A Charming Autumn Tag by Petra

Design Team member Petra Berendsen submitted this absolutely beautiful sample for your inspiration today.  She created a lovely tag using a Lunagirl image of a lady walking in the autumn woods (I like the contrast of her dark dress against the golden leaves, and the book under her arm!).  I just love the colors here in the pretty backgrounds and embellishments.  They complement the colors in the central image so well.  And she tried something a little different that turned out amazing:  she created the little Fall leaves charm!

Petra writes:  "I created a tag and did a little bit of experimenting. For quite a long while I have had some printable shrink plastic which I had not used before but it was just the right stuff to create a leave charm with one of your images. And I have to say I am quite pleased the way it turned out. The colours came out very nicely and the image is still pristine - even after the shrinking... Hope you like it."

It's gorgeous!  Perfect inspiration on this bright Fall day.

    Iconic Autumn by Vicki

This simple and elegant design by DT member Vicki Romaine is the very epitome of Autumn beauty, don't you think?  Simply beautiful.

Vicki writes: "This Lunagirl grouping of leaves is the main feature on this card when placed on a Cheery Lynn Designs die.  The sentiment is a SEI embellishment."

    Autumn Drama by Michele

When I opened this latest sample sent to me by DT Member Michele Storms, the actual words out of my mouth were, "Oh Wow!"

This is so pretty and quite dramatic.  I recognize the Egyptian Art Nouveau image from one of my Mucha collage sheets.  I love her pose, and the assymmetrical placement of the arch on the background, and the swirl of big bright leaves.

Thanks, Michele!  Visit Michele at Artfromthewell.blogspot.com.
