Tutorial to Share: Making an Altoid's Tin Book

I collect craft tutorials on my pinterest page and like to share them here from time to time. Here is a particularly nice one by Laura Carson on her Gingersnap Creations blog. Laura has created a wonderfully detailed explanation for making a charming altered book with an altoid tin. If you're like me (and my husband) you always a supply of those great little tins lying around! They're too cute and useful to through away, but you need a creative way to alter them.

Laura's supply list includes ephemera and vintage images ... you know where to find those! (brazen hint: Lunagirl.com)  This project could easily be adapted to other altered tin ideas... a box or any kind of container rather than a book, a tiny shrine, etc.  Here's the link to the original tutorial:

Tutorials for Printing on Fabric

I occasionally get questions about printing Lunagirl images onto fabric... I found some video tutorials for a customer just this morning, and I thought I would share the links below for others who might be interested.

You can print Lunagirl images onto any medium that will work in your printer, and printing onto fabric transfers or transferring to fabric is a great technique to try.

You can create quilt blocks, unique bags, tea towels, aprons, t-shirts, baby clothes... or just add something a little different and textured to your cards and scrapbooks.

Check Out Roses on My Table Art Labs

I've been meaning to blog about the online Art Labs at Roses on My Table.

Zinnia Gallagher has created a wonderful online destination for mixed media creativity: Roses on My Table is a social network offering online classes, art groups, galleries and swaps, and the annual Artful Gathering online art retreat with multiple workshops and other events (Lunagirl is proud to be a sponsor!).   It's a great opportunity for learning, sharing, and connecting with other mixed media artists and crafters.

The current art labs focus on techniques that are usually for jewelry-making but that can be applied in any mixed media projects.  Here is some info from the site about the art labs:

I couldn't resist re-blogging this great tutorial from maya*made!  Theses woven heart baskets are adorable ~ fill them with candy, flowers, love messages. And you can adapt the template to make "single layer" hearts, too, for cards and such.

Vintage Winter Freebie: Antique Snowflake Photos

In 1885 a Vermont farmer, amateur scientist, and photographer named Wilson Bentley started taking photographs of snowflakes.  This was obviously not an easy thing to do, but he developed a method of capturing snowflakes on boards covered in black velvet and then quickly transferring them to microscope slides to take the photographs.  Above are just a few of his amazing results.

Wilson Bentley was also the first person to propose that no two snowflakes are exactly alike ~ each and every one is unique! Thanks to Mr. Bentley's curiosity, persistence, and ingenuity we can enjoy these beautiful antique images of nature's artwork.

Tutorial: Emily Summers Design and Nonsense: Pretty Handmade Envelopes

I collect craft tutorials on pinterest, and I thought it would be nice to share some of them on my blog, with credit of course!  Here from Emily Summers "Design and Nonsense" blog is a very lovely and very simple tutorial for creating pretty handmade envelopes from scrapbook paper or any kind of scrap paper -- you could use maps, book pages, even printed Lunagirl images!   She uses a regular envelope as a template by unfolding it flat (see pics in tutorial).

This would be great for holiday invitations or greeting cards or even little envelopes for gift tags, don't you think?

How to Make Glass Marble Magnets
