Second Week: Vintage SEWING Theme

So begins the second week of the Sewing theme creative challenge. I've enjoyed the entries so far, and here is more inspiration from the fabulous Design Team. I love that these are three different creations/interpretations with the same sewing lady from my Vive St. Anne sewing ladies collage sheet! That was just a coincidence, but cool, huh?

Just a reminderthe SEWING theme can include stitching, quilting, or any kind of needlework actually incorporated into your creation, or it can include images of sewing, quilting, crocheting, knitting, even spinning. Remember that any medium is OK, so in addition to cards, paper crafts, and digital art, feel free to enter pictures of your fabric creations!

Need vintage sewing images? You'll find buttons and thimbles, scissors and spools, antique sewing machines, photos of vintage ladies sewing (Vive St. Anne, the patron saint of seamstresses!), vintage thread ads and fabric labels, and more at Lunagirl.com!

What else the Moonbeams are up to!

Just wanted to share some other projects from my Moonbeams Design Team...

Corinne Marie has a great tutorial on her blog today, for creating a file folder junk journal (with a swap too). Sounds like a fun project for these chilly last days of winter...

More wonderful inspiration from the Design Team for our Vintage Sewing theme!

Come on, join the challenge! Find some great vintage sewing images, make a "sewn" creation with fabric or knitting or weaving or cross-stitch, or just add some stitches or weaving to your card or layout or digital art... hey, if you can't thread an actual needle you can add "stitchery" embellishments or digital elements!

You can do it and we want to see. And you might win a prize in the drawing next Thursday.

I'll be sewing away, waiting for spring to arrive while I make aprons out of all this fabric I've collected!

VICKI ROMAINE (The Cheerful Stamp Pad)This sewing tag uses a girl image from Little Blue Button Stamps and sewing images from Lunagirl.  The girl appears to be walking across the top of the thimbles with her sewing machine...

Creative Challenge Theme: Vintage SEWING

Time for a new challenge theme! In the past few months, I have re-awakening my love of sewing, thanks to a vintage 1956 Singer sewing machine, just like my mother's discovered at a basement sale last summer. I enjoy cutting and stitching away whenever I get the chance, and buying fabrics is my new guilty pleasure! This is the inspiration for my next blog challenge theme: VINTAGE SEWING.

My machine isn't quite as old as this girl's ~ mine is more mid-century ~ and I don't (usually) wear my pearls when I sew, but she looks like she has as much fun as I do. I hope you have fun with the theme! The SEWING theme can include stitching, quilting, or any kind of needlework actually incorporated into your creation, or it can include images of sewing, quilting, crocheting, knitting, even spinning.

Guidelines for the challenge:
  • Any craft or medium is OK.
  • Vintage style is encouraged.
  • Use a Lunagirl image or element and your entry will count twice in the drawing!
  • Remember to link to this blog and to Lunagirl.com on your site if you have one.
  • Prize:  Winner will be selected randomly to receive a $15 credit at Lunagirl.com!
  • Challenge ends at noon CST on Thursday, March 5.
  • I love it when you use Lunagirl images, and I hope you'll go take a look at my collections... but that's not a requirement!  But do remember that if you use a Lunagirl image, you will be entered TWICE in the drawing! I welcome everyone and every style but also want to give a little something extra to my wonderful customers! Most important is have fun, get creative, enjoy vintage.

DON'T MISS THE INSPIRATION FROM THE DESIGN TEAM BELOW!
There will be more from the DT later during this challenge, and you'll want to check back to see all the entries as well. We hope you'll share yours!

    Ice Storm Redbird Freebie

I'm glad we have groceries and plenty of books to read, because it doesn't look like we'll be going anywhere anytime soon. Everything outside is covered with a thin layer of ice! Above is the view out an upstairs window.. The red buds on the maple trees are covered in ice (hint: join in the RED challenge which continues until Thursday!)

I know this looks like nothing compared to the snow piles in Boston or even in Kentucky. But we here in the South aren't equipped with the ice-driving experience or the ice-driving technology (chains and snow tires) to drive in this... the school buses won't be out for at least a couple of days, I suspect, and neither will I!

When I say everything is coated in ice, that includes the power lines, so if I disappear for a couple of days and don't announce the challenge winner on time, that means my electricity is out. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that doesn't happen, and I'm off to make more hot tea and some quesadillas for the boys. At least it is pretty outside the kitchen window... although if I'm going to "snowed in" I wish it at least involved some beautiful white SNOW and not just ice!

In honor of the RED challenge, and the brave cold little birds outside at my bird feeder, here is a freebie for you.
I do hope you'll get inspired and join the challenge.
And if you're snowed in or iced in, hey, what better excuse to spend all day crafting and creating?

    Creative Challenge: RED

Our new challenge theme starting today is RED. Yes, it is just in time for Valentines Day, but isn't red wonderful just for its own sake? I hope you'll enjoy using this warm passionate color!

I tend toward the "cooler" colors of blue and green and purple myself, but who can resist a lovely rich burgundy wine red, a cheerful cherry red, or a sassy pop of fire-engine red? It warms you up on a cold day and certainly grabs your attention. I love red birds and red poppies and roses, cherries and apples and cranberries and strawberries, the deep dark red of wine. I am very fond of red shoes! And I wish I had a red cape like the little girl above.

So, Valentines or not, get inspired by the color red and get creating. Feature Red somehow in your creation, and then link it up for the fun of sharing and for a chance to win the drawing... use a Lunagirl image and double the chances your entry will win!

    Here are the guidelines:

  • Any craft or medium is OK.
  • Vintage style is encouraged.
  • Use a Lunagirl image or element and your entry will count twice in the drawing!
  • Remember to link to this blog and to Lunagirl.com on your site if you have one.
  • Prize:  Winner will be selected randomly to receive a $15 credit at Lunagirl.com!
  • Challenge ends at noon CST on Thursday, February 19.

Here is the lucky winner of the HONEYBEE challenge ~ this gorgeous entry by JEN!
A winner of the random drawing for this challenge, Jen will receive $15 credit to use at Lunagirl.com for some new digital images to print and play with. A special congratulations to Jen, and a big congratulations to EVERYONE for some truly splendid work! Thanks to all.

"Watch this space" for the next challenge, coming soon... our theme will be RED...

    Just a few more Bees...

I thought I would sneak in one more "Bee" creation from the Design Team.
You still have a couple of hours to get yours in "under the wire" and maybe win the drawing for $15 credit at Lunagirl.com.

Here is a beautiful little fairyland tag by Mandy Chilvers, with honeybees buzzing about a romantic little faerie scene.
I love all the layering of print on the background and the little leaves. And the ribbons are just perfect.

If you have missed Mandy's work in the DT samples (as I have) ~ she has been plagued by the computer gremlins but (fingers crossed) she is back!

The BEE challenge ends at noon today, in a couple of hours, and later today I'll announce a winner of the prize drawing.

Join us bright and early tomorrow for the next challenge ~ the new theme will be RED...

Bees and a Diva on Blue... from the Design Team

Michele Storms created these two beautiful tags... absolutely gorgeous, don't you agree?
The one on the left features images from my Honey bee digital collage sheets (including the "Bee Hive Clothing House" tag image) and a lady from French Postcards. If I were her I would be a little scared of that bee in my undies! On the right is a beautiful Blue themed tag featuring some Lunagirl images as well. I think that actually go together... united by the butterflies and vintage feel. I love Michele's tags.

To the right here is a notecard and tag set created by Corinne Marie. I shared the main "honey bee" card before, but I wanted to show the whole set as well as it is so lovely. I especially like the multiple layers of the tag.

    Great work, ladies, thank you!
Don't miss more bees buzzing about in the gallery for this challenge, and don't forget you have until Thursday to enter your own for a chance to win!
