More Holiday Children from the Design Team -- Join Our Challenge!

Are YOU still eating turkey and pumpkin pie? That was breakfast at our house today! The day-after-Thanksgiving tradition at our house is sleep late, eat leftover pie, and watch movies. No Black Friday madness, thank you! (Although I will check out the online deals!)

The holiday season is officially upon us, and we're celebrating with a HOLIDAY CHILDREN theme for the current blog challenge here at LunagirlMoonbeams.com. Be sure to join in! Here is more inspiration from the Moonbeams Design Team!

Blog Challenge Theme: Holiday Children

It's that time of year again -- time for gratitude and joy, food and family, tradition and celebration, thankfulness and hope. Autumn leaves, holly berries and mistletoe, turkey and pumpkin pie (and pecan pies at my house!) and then later cookies and candies, gingerbread and peppermint, the smell of cinnamon and evergreens... yes, I love this time of year!

For many people, one of the best things about Thanksgiving, Christmas and Hanukkah are our memories of childhood celebrations and the fun of seeing our own children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, enjoy the magic of this season. It's wonderful to see the holiday season through the eyes of a child. So let's have fun creating with images of Holiday Children.

There are so many wonderful vintage images of girls and boys. We have hundreds in our collection of Victorian and Edwardian era holiday postcards -- for Christmas and New Years on Victorian Holidays One and for Thanksgiving (and Halloween too!) on Victorian Holidays Volume Three. I've used a few on some charming digital collage sheets for holidays. The Lunagirl Moonbeams Design Team feature some of them below.

Here are the guidelines for this challenge:

  • Any craft or medium is OK.
  • Limit of 3 entries from one person in each challenge, please.
  • Vintage style is encouraged.
  • Use a Lunagirl image or element and your entry will count twice in the drawing!
  • Remember to link to this blog and to Lunagirl.com on your site if you have one.
  • Prize:  Winner will be selected randomly to receive a $15 credit at Lunagirl.com!
  • Challenge ends at noon CST on December 7.
  • I love it when you use Lunagirl images, and I hope you'll go take a look at my collections... but that's not a requirement!  But do remember that if you use a Lunagirl image, you will be entered TWICE in the drawing! I welcome everyone and every style but also want to give a little something extra to my wonderful customers! Most important is have fun, get creative, enjoy vintage.

And don't miss the creations of my Design Team below, for your enjoyment and inspiration!

Isn't this a lovely tag by MICHELE STORMS?

The little girl image is from the Lunagirl digital collage sheet Victorian Christmas. The Christmas birds are from Christmas Birds & Holly.

VICKI ROMAINE created these two cards with a straw background ... the first one, which is a "gate" card with the image attached to the left side of the gate, is for our Holiday Children theme. But I've included the second one (a stand-up card) to show how she created two entirely different-looking cards with the same supplies! (The vintage images are from Lunagirl Thanksgiving digital collage sheet.)

Tutorial to Share: Making an Altoid's Tin Book

I collect craft tutorials on my pinterest page and like to share them here from time to time. Here is a particularly nice one by Laura Carson on her Gingersnap Creations blog. Laura has created a wonderfully detailed explanation for making a charming altered book with an altoid tin. If you're like me (and my husband) you always a supply of those great little tins lying around! They're too cute and useful to through away, but you need a creative way to alter them.
Laura's supply list includes ephemera and vintage images ... you know where to find those! (brazen hint: Lunagirl.com)  This project could easily be adapted to other altered tin ideas... a box or any kind of container rather than a book, a tiny shrine, etc.  Here's the link to the original tutorial:

Gingersnap Creations: Laura Carson: Making an Altoid's Tin Book: In this tutorial I’ll walk you through creating a vintage Altoid’s Tin book using chipboard and two Altoid’s tins.

Challenge Theme: ASIAN ART & EPHEMERA

Here's my new challenge theme, which starts today and continues until November 23:

    Asian Art and Ephemera

I'm very fond of Japanese antique landscapes, nature prints, geisha drawings and prints, and vintage photos. I've collected a few hundred for you on my Japanese Prints & Photos CD and also on several Geisha and Asian-themed digital collage sheets which you can see here.

I'm more familiar with Japanese imagery but I also love art and ephemera from China, India, etc. I don't have as much available as I should, but I do have a digital collage sheet featuring my collection of authentic retro Chinese firecracker labels, which are pretty great... and another with some vintage Asian paper money.

I chose the make it art plus ephemera in order in include everything: the beautiful landscapes and prints of animals and birds and flowers, the wonderful geisha art that is very popular, plus vintage photographs, asian patterned papers, asian scripts and calligraphy, any kind of ephemera.

So please get busy creating and join in! Here are the challenge guidelines:

    LUNAGIRL MOONBEAMS DESIGN TEAM

I can't imagine a better way to start this theme than this gorgeous card by MICHELE STORMS, which uses some beautiful Asian-inspired papers and embellishments with an elegant lady from my first Geisha collage sheet.
VICKI ROMAINE inspired this challenge theme, and she inspires again with this beautiful card!
I like that cut-out flower behind the geisha, and how she outlined the geisha in black. Nice ephemera background too!
Here's a wonderful journal page created by MANDY CHILVERS.
She used images from my Chinese Labels collage sheet, and I love how she used the azalea blossoms as well.

    Fabulous Dancers in Fabulous Hats

This tag really brings a smile to my face... it could be the pretty bright pink color, or the fun designs printed in the background, or that fabulous vintage dancing couple... but I'm pretty sure it's those hats!! Yes!!

Thanks to Mandy Chilvers for another great DT sample piece!

Be sure to join my Music and Dance challenge!
