March Challenge: Spring Flowers & Birds

Welcome to my March challenge!

The first daffodil is about to bloom outside my front door, and there have been hints of springtime in the last few days, so this theme is just in time: Spring Flowers & Birds.

I couldn't resist using one of the images from my new "Garden Catalogues" collage sheet ~ adding some birds and changing the text of course. I think those are hollyhocks, which are probably summer flowers (and wonderfully old-fashioned) but I also added some yellow daffodils, which are definitely the messengers of early Spring!

I hope you have fun with this theme. It makes me smile.

You'll find lots of inspiration at Lunagirl.com to help get you started... image collections by download or CD, and hundreds of digital collage sheets ... Flowers, Birds, Woodland, Garden... Green, Easter, Spring!

    Inspiration!

Join the challenge! The theme is Fruit and Flowers ~ I challenge you to create something featuring or inspired by fruit, flowers, blossoms, gardens... and share it with us here!

My choice of this theme was inspired by the beautiful old Victorian botanical prints that I love, and as usual the Design Team has come up with some wonderfully inspiring work.
Above is digital art by CorinneMarie, featuring vintage grapes and related ephemera.
Below is another piece by CorinneMarie, this one a darling altered matchbox! She has incorporated the botanical prints in shade of pink and red with some charming ladies in red, a vintage pink background, and accents in red as well.
I know this will get your creative juices flowing and inspire you to join in!
The Fruit & Flowers challenge continues until next Thursday, March 19,
so you have plenty of time to link up. Get the details and see more inspiration!

You'll find plenty of vintage birds at Lunagirl!

<<< I created my challenge badge at left with a "briars" frame from my Vintage Style Blank Labels collection, in green version, a lady from my Victorian Edwardian Vintage Ladies Photos CD Vol 1, which I tinted with autumn colors, and assorted birds!

    New: Printable Victorian Bookmarks

    http://lunagirl.com/collections/new-releases/products/victorian-tags-small-bookmarks-digital-collage-sheet
Here is yet another new digital collage sheet printable.  As much as I love books and reading, it's a wonder it took me this long to start creating bookmarks.  Many more will be on the way -- along with many tags...

This first set is a collection of smaller (four inches tall) bookmarks I created with vintage images of ladies, flowers, birds, fairies, and scraps of vintage ads and Victorian wallpaper!  Kind of a garden theme, with flower fairy girls, Art Nouveau vines, daisies, bluebird, lilacs, and more.  I hope you will enjoy them.

And although I don't know how much I'll get done before going on hiatus next week, there will be more tags and bookmarks and other pretty vintage printables!

New Digital Collage Full of Fairies!

I thought this one turned out really pretty! I call it "In the Fairy Garden."  Here in the fairy garden you'll find Victorian flower fairies, of course, and little garden angels, little girls with painted wings and flowers in their hair, a little garden gnome carrying a bouquet... and a girl in blue peeks around the fence to see what is going on.  I've included a gorgeous vintage floral frame, and inside that a picture of children, fairies, and robins having a tea party in a bird's nest!  I had lots of fun with this one, and I hope you will too.  Visit Lunagirl's fairy and angel garden.

    VICTORIAN SPRING challenge starts today!

I hope you will all link up a "Victorian Spring" creation for this challenge!  I am certainly feeling "spring fever" this year -- flowers are popping up everywhere, birds are singing and "twitterpatin'", the bunnies are hopping, and I am so restless and eager for the warmer weather.

Take this theme wherever you feel inspired to go, but let's try to make it "Victorian" (or Edwardian, antique, vintage,  heritage, etc...)
With so many wonderful signs and symbols of Spring, there are lots of possibilities -- flowers of course, and butterflies, bugs, gardening, Easter, Passover, April Showers, pretty dresses & fans, Earth Day, bunnies & chicks, eggs & baskets, flower fairies & Easter angels, and don't forget all the birds!
Lunagirl has thousands of Victorian/vintage images and digital collage sheets to choose from for all of these and more.

The Lunagirl Moonbeams Design Team will be working with some unique and beautiful images from my Garden Fantasy One collage sheet and also some chickies and children from my Easter Fun collage sheet.  Don't miss their samples below!

Here are the guidelines for this challenge:

    • This challenge (#25) will end at Noon (Central Time) on April 20.
    • Any craft or medium is OK,
    • No more than 3 entries from one person in each challenge,
    • Vintage style is encouraged, and
    • Please link to this blog and Lunagirl.com on your site if you have one.
    • Prize:  The winner will be selected randomly to win a $10 coupon for Lunagirl.com!
    • Of course I love if you use at least one Lunagirl.com product, and I hope you'll go take a look at my collection... but that's not a requirement!
    • However, if you use a Lunagirl image, you will be entered TWICE in the drawing! I want to welcome everyone and every style but also give a little something extra to my wonderful customers!

Winner of the Seed Packs Vintage Garden Challenge :-)

I've had my cup of very strong hot tea and half an hour of pinterest, so I think I'm awake enough to write a post now!  The first order of business is to announce the winner of the random drawing for the Seed Packs Vintage Garden blog challenge.  We had such pretty entries this time; I just love looking at them.  I'm crazy for gardens, and everyone submitted such gorgeous work!

The lucky winner of the drawing is #4 Annie Claxton and her amazing altered gardening journal!  (Click the picture to go to her blog post and see lots more pictures of it!)

Congrats, Annie ~ email me at info@lunagirl.com to claim your coupon code for two free Lunagirl digital collage sheets.

We start the next challenge on the theme of BELLYDANCE today ~ I'll be posting that soon.

Link Up Your Seed Pack Vintage Garden Project Today!

Everyone still has until 11:55 tonight (Central Time in U.S.) to add their creation to the blog challenge!  The entries so far are just lovely ~ looking at them all together it truly looks like a lush garden!  Take a look at our Vintage Garden and join in for a chance to share and a chance to win the drawing tomorrow for free Lunagirl digital collage sheets.

Big thanks and many blessings to Vicki Romaine, who in the midst of a motorhome mishap/adventure has created and sent us one more beautiful seed pack / garden card for inspiration.  :-)  Look close to see the three-dimensional effect on the flowers... I'll make the picture big so you can see better.  I love how several people have used this image in different ways!  All to great effect.

"I decided to do something a little different with the seed pack image this time.  It may be a little difficult to see, but upon looking closely you will see that I made the flowers three dimensional.  I printed three copies of the flowers and cut parts out and placed them on top of the original image with pop ups.  It really gives the card depth."

Hop on over to The Cheerful Stamppad sometime and join Vicki's blog challenges too!

From Michele Storms of the LM DT

"garden fairies are everywhere and this one (from lunagirl “fly away home” collage sheet) is here to help some chrysanthemums grow.  this seed pack is from the “french flowers seed pack #1” and it inspired me to go wild with the butterflies, too."  ~ Michele

Free, for Inspiration, a new tag

I've started playing around with my French botanical prints and "Revue Horticole" pages and other old ephemera, and thought I would share one of the tags I created yesterday.  I just love these colors.

This would be perfect to incorporate into a project for the Seed Packs Vintage Garden blog challenge (hint, nudge, wink).

You are welcome to use this for personal non-commercial use.  I do ask that if you publish something using it on a blog website magazine etc., that you please credit and link Lunagirl Images.

    Thanks!

    ~ Karen

    Blue Jays

I can feel summer loosening its grip as the wheel turns toward autumn.  The predicted high today is "only" 86!  This morning I heard bluejays, who come every year in search of acorns and bring September with them. The sounds of an early September morning in the South ~ the drowsy whir of the summer locusts, rising and falling like waves (if you're from the South, you know them) and the squawks of the first bluejays.

The original of this print shows the bluejays breaking and eating the eggs of some other bird (!) but I've altered them to a more "peaceful" scene (are bluejays ever really peaceful?)  I love the orange "crossvine" flowers as well ~ we have them growing on our backyard fence.  Enjoy the last few days of Summer. ~ Karen

Cool Green Watermelon Card by Vicki

Wow, so bright and cool and summery!  I just love the bright green and watermelon red, and the contrast with the black.  This card makes me feel cooler just looking at it!  Cute sentiment!

Thanks to Vicki Romaine of The Cheerful Stamppad for this pretty card:

"My seed pack card uses a watermelon Lunagirl image.  The green mat, sentiment, and watermelon embellishment are leftovers from a SEI pack."

And isn't watermelon appropriate for this picnic / cookout weekend?  Hope everybody here in the States has a great Labor Day weekend.

    Garden Fairies are Back!

The colors in this are so perfect and cool ~ I love the soft greens in the background and the watermelon pink dress of the fairy Michele chose to complement the seed pack image.  So pretty!

"it takes a garden fairy to make our gardens grow and this watermelon seed pack from the lunagirl “summertime seed packs” collage sheet is getting help from a fairy from the lunagirl “fly away home” collage sheet."

    Free Image: Flower Seed Packet

As promised I've scanned a freebie in honor of my seed packs / vintage garden blog challenge.

This is an antique flower seed packet featuring some lovely old-fashioned yellow and pink flowers.  They were labelled Digitalis before I altered the image.  They resemble foxglove as well.  Either way, they remind me of my Great Aunt Bessie's garden which was way out in the country.

I hope you will enter the Seed Packs Vintage Garden blog challenge, inspired by this image or another!

Vintage Gardening Inspiration from the Moonbeams DT!

I forgot to add the Design Team pieces to my challenge announcement yesterday!  I'm so sorry about that, I know that everyone enjoys them.

So, here are some beautiful works from Michele, Petra, and Vicki created with Lunagirl summer vegetable seed packs and French flower seed packs and other images and elements.

Enjoy, and link up your own!  And do follow my blog to see more from the Lunagirl Moonbeams Design Team.

A pretty tag from Michele Storms with lots of cool green and some cute little ladies!  I love this color of green, and the "rays" motif on the tag.

" i think we all know what makes children grow – eating peas!this tag shows how peas make little girls grow big and strong.the seed pack is from “summertime seed packs” collage sheet and the little girls are from the “littlegirls” collage sheet, both from lunagirl of course!the rest are goodies of my own.eat your peas! "

Petra Berendsen created some fab garden themed art using our collage sheets: Summertime Seed Packs and Vintage adverts: Seeds and Plants.  These are nice for saving seeds or marking your garden, or just as art/cards!

Vicki Romaine used a French flower seed pack as a focus for this lovely summery card:

"I used a cream-colored base card on which I placed burnish-looking designer paper.  On top of that I used a Cheery Lynn Design die out of cream cardstock.  On top of that is a brown embossed piece of embossed cardstock from my stash.  Topping the card layers is a beautiful digital sunflower seed pack image from Lunagirl.  As an added touch a flower embellishment is placed in the corner opposite the sentiment."

Blog Challenge: Seed Packs Vintage Gardening

Ready for the next blog challenge?  This time I'm featuring something a little different, one of my favorite types of vintage ephemera: antique Seed Packs for flowers and vegetables.  Actually I have so many favorites, but I just love the overgrown, lazy look of my garden this time of year, and the bright colors of zinnias and sunflowers and summer veggies, and I've just recently scanned some beautiful French flower seed packets, so this theme caught my fancy.

Since not everyone has seed packs in their collection, I'm going to do some things to help!

First, let's expand the theme to VINTAGE GARDEN which could include our pretty seed packs, antique seed catalogs, summer flowers, botanical prints, or whatever else seems to fit for you.

Second, I'm putting a whole bunch of garden-related items on sale at Lunagirl.com, including my newly created French Flower Seed Packs and Vegetable Garden collage sheets, plenty of flowers, a few butterflies, plus several CDs such as Vintage Can and Crate Labels, Victorian Flowers, Fruit Botanical Prints and Flower Botanical Prints, and even my Victorian Children Photos just for good measure!  It's a really good chance to grab some images at a great price, especially on the CDs.

And last but not least, I think I'll share a couple of freebies soon!

And as always the Lunagirl Moonbeams Design Team will be sharing their inspiring creations...

So browse around the garden, get inspired by the colors and forms of flowers and veggies and Victorian typography, and link up your creation!

This challenge (#9) will end at 11:55 pm on September 8 ~  The winner will be selected randomly (random number generator) to win two free Lunagirl digital collage sheets of your choice!

Be creative but stick to the theme,
Any craft or medium is OK,
No more than 3 entries from one person in each challenge, and
Please link back to my blog & Lunagirl.com on your site if you have one.

Of course I love if you use at least one Lunagirl product, but that's not a requirement!  Most important is have fun, get creative, enjoy vintage.
