Creative Challenge Theme: Put a BIRD On It!

I had a great time creating the badge for this new challenge, and I hope you will have great fun creating up to three entries!

My theme this time is "Put a Bird On It."  You KNOW that everything is cuter and prettier when you add one of our feathered friends...
so create a card, an ATC, some digital art, an altered book or tin, a scrapbooking layout, some fabric art, a assemblage or altar or some fabulous jewelry, anything mixed media, creative, and preferably (although not necessarily) vintage, and then ... put a bird on it! And enter our challenge.

You'll find plenty of vintage birds at Lunagirl!

<<< I created my challenge badge at left with a "briars" frame from my Vintage Style Blank Labels collection, in green version, a lady from my Victorian Edwardian Vintage Ladies Photos CD Vol 1, which I tinted with autumn colors, and assorted birds!

Below are the challenge guidelines and some samples by the Moonbeams Design Team (don't miss them!)

GUIDELINES:

  • Any craft or medium is OK.
  • Limit of 3 entries from one person in each challenge, please.
  • Vintage style is encouraged.
  • Use a Lunagirl image or element and your entry will count twice in the drawing!
  • Remember to link to this blog and to Lunagirl.com on your site if you have one.
  • Prize:  Winner will be selected randomly to receive a $10 credit at Lunagirl.com!
  • Challenge ends at noon CST on October 12.

  • I love it you use Lunagirl images, and I hope you'll go take a look at my collections... but that's not a requirement!  But do remember that if you use a Lunagirl image, you will be entered TWICE in the drawing! I welcome everyone and every style but also want to give a little something extra to my wonderful customers! Most important is have fun, get creative, enjoy vintage.

Autumn is Here! Create Something for Our Challenge!

It's official -- the Autumnal Equinox occurred on Monday here in the Northern Hemisphere, so it is FALL!  Time for cool misty mornings and colder nights, rainy grey afternoons and bright brisk sunny days too... brightly painted leaves on the trees and crunchy brown leaves beneath your feet... the smell of chimneys outside and pumpkin pies inside... Alright, I'll admit it's still 80 degrees here in Tennessee, but it WAS kind of cool this morning! I DID turn the heat on for the first time this season. :-)

Please help us celebrate Autumn by linking up your Autumnal creation in our challenge! Any medium is fine -- cards, scrapbook pages, mixed media, digital art, jewelry, altered objects, fabric arts -- we want to see your work!

Mandy Chilvers of the Lunagirl Moonbeams Design Team created this elegant tag to herald the season and inspire us... This Autumn Girl looks like the Goddess of Fall.

Apron Obsession.... This is how it starts

A while back I told you about my amazing vintage sewing machine find... I used it to create some little bags and pillows and found that I remember how to sew! Now I'm on to APRONS.

Have I mentioned my apron obsession? I didn't think so. Well, I'm obsessed with vintage style aprons and decided for the sake of my credit card balance I had better start making my own.  Here is my first apron! And.... all the fabric I bought half-off at Hancock's for creating more aprons! I can see this getting out of hand quickly. I may have to start selling aprons... I've already named my new etsy shop after making one apron, hmm, think that's a little too soon?... and have I mentioned my obsession with pincushions and potholders and ornaments and all kinds of bags big and small -- oh yeah, I have time for this.

UPDATE September 24: I was back in the fabric store last night. More fabrics for aprons and messenger bags! My husband took me there so I guess he's an enabler. :-)

    New Creative Challenge Theme: AUTUMN

In honor of the official beginning of Autumn next Monday -- and the lovely Fall-like weather we're having here in Tennessee this week! -- my new challenge theme is AUTUMN.

What does autumn mean to you?  To me, Autumn means falling leaves, of course, and autumn colors of gold and red and orange and brown.  It means nights that get longer and cooler.  Bright sunny days with a little nip in the air.  Cool rainy days spent with a blanket and a good book.  Pumpkin pie, red apples, Halloween and Thanksgiving.  School clothes and Number 2 pencils.  Here in Tennessee, early Fall means the acorns are ripe and the squawky bluejays arrive to eat them!

If you see the definitions of "autumnal" in my picture above, it can also refer to a metaphorical autumn, the autumn of one's life, an autumnal style in art, a feeling of something a little past ripe but still lush, a turning from fullness of summer toward the stillness of winter, a golden in-between time.  A turning inward.  Fall always energizes me, with cooler air and bright turning leaves and a new school year, but it also tends to make me reflective.

FIND AUTUMN IMAGERY to inspire you!

  • Challenge ends at noon CST on September 28.

  • Of course I love if you use at least one Lunagirl product, and I hope you'll go take a look at my collection... but that's not a requirement!  But do remember that if you use a Lunagirl image, you will be entered TWICE in the drawing! I want to welcome everyone and every style but also give a little something extra to my wonderful customers! Most important is have fun, get creative, enjoy vintage.

I can't wait to see your creative reflections on AUTUMN!  The Design Team has created some very lovely pieces to get your creative juices flowing (see them below).

And below is a tiny fairy tag by Michele! So pretty and delicate!

MICHELE STORMS:this tag is tiny -- about 1 inch by 2 and a half inches.  the images are from "beauties 2" and "rainbow wings."  the background paper is a freebie you offered long ago and there is a heart behind her from shabby lilac!  this is a very lunagirl fairy! :)

Paris Botanical Tags Set: Ephemera, Flowers & Fruit

Still working on Paris Botanical tags today... I made another sheet with yellow flowers and golden fruit. Very pretty! While I was at it I realized I should make a sheet of matching tags that are mostly blank and have a place to write -- to use as backs or just to complete the set. So here is the whole set so far... expect more tags in different themes because I'm having fun with these!

Chocolate and Cream at Digitally Sweet Challenges!

There's a "yummy" new challenge I'm sponsoring at Digitally Sweet Challenges this week. The theme is "Chocolate and Cream"! I'm thinking that can include the colors chocolate brown and cream (nice for Fall, don't you think?), or the yummy treats (nice anytime)!

There are some beautiful and fun samples already up on the site from the DSC Design Team, and I know they'll soon have plenty of lovely creative entries.  I hope you'll go add yours, for a chance to win all the Lunagirl Images the DT was given to play with.

Thanks to Karen Wilson and everyone at DigitallySweet for such fun challenges, and for the chance to sponsor them!
